Generation Partners

EPB Electric Power partners with TVA to offer our customers an opportunity to support the generation of power with very low impact on the environment through Green Power Providers ® .

To become a Generation Partner, a home or business should first submit to EPB the Application for Interconnection of Distributed Generation, ( 10 kW or less application | Greater than 10 kW application ), and a completed Participation Agreement ( Participation Agreement ).

Once the Application and Participation Agreement are approved, the customer can have solar or other renewable energy generation equipment installed. Residential and commercial customers may qualify for a $1,000 incentive to help offset start-up costs, and some Federal tax credits for renewable energy may apply.

Of course, EPB can provide technical support for any such installation, because all equipment must be in compliance with national standards and all applicable codes and be certified by a licensed electrician.

TVA will then purchase 100% of the green power output at a premium. TVA will pay 12 cents per kilowatt-hour for solar and 3 cents per kilowatt-hour for other renewable sources, plus the current electric rate. Payment is made in form of a credit issued by EPB on the monthly power bill for the home or business where the generation system is located – and guaranteed for ten years from the date of the contract.

Nearly 1.5 megawatts of power are currently generated by Generation Partners. We support TVA’s goal of buying up to 200 megawatts of power generated through wind, solar, low-impact hydro and biomass by Generation Partners, making more green power available for people in Chattanooga and all over TVA's service area.

You do not have to subscribe to the Green Power Switch ® program to participate in the Generation Partners program. For a full overview of the program, visit  Generation Partners on the TVA website.
