CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (May 2, 2012) – EPB announced today its commitment to participate in the Green Button initiative, the utility industry’s response to a White House call to action. The Green Button, which will be accessible from EPB’s website, will allow customers to safely download their household or business energy consumption in an easy-to-read, customer and computer-friendly format. Customers will be able to use the tool to track their energy data and apply that information to manage their power consumption if they choose. Customers will also be able to provide their energy data to 3rd parties developing apps and programs that can help them more closely manage their consumption.
"EPB’s smarter grid, while reducing outage duration for our community by 40% or more, will also allow us to offer options and choices that have not been available to our customers before," said EPB’s President and CEO, Harold DePriest. "The Green Button is a first step in making power consumption data easily and safely available to our customers should they choose to take advantage of the growing number of programs and apps being developed to help people manage energy use." EPB will offer the Green Button tool, which uses the North American Energy Standard’s Board Energy Services Provider Interface data standard, to both residential and business customers beginning in early 2013.
