EPB's 100% Fiber Optic Network Deployment Ahead of Schedule

Announces Availability to Entire Service Area by December 2010

EPB also announced their plans to introduce the nation’s first and only 150 Mbps residential Internet product, Fi-Speed Internet 150. Fi-Speed Internet 150 will offer 150 Mbps both uploading and downloading and will be available to residential customers by the end of June 2010.

EPB has built the largest municipal 100% fiber optic network in the country, which is currently capable of delivering 100 Mbps Internet service to over 100,000 homes and businesses in their service area. This capability puts Chattanooga ten years ahead of the FCC’s National Broadband Plan.

“From the start, people in the community have been telling us that they want Fi-Speed Internet, Fi TV and Fi Phone from EPB Fiber Optics, so we’ve done everything we can to speed up the deployment,” says Katie Espeseth, Vice President of EPB Fiber Optics. “We’re especially pleased to bring the incredible power of our 100% fiber optic network to our rural community much sooner than expected,” says Katie Espeseth, EPB Fiber Optics Vice President. “There are many folks who haven’t been given the chance to access more advanced communications simply because of where they live. This will change by the end of the year. We will see some customers go from dial up speeds to next generation Internet for the first time ever.”

“True, next generation broadband, like what is available with our fiber optic network, will be key to the progression of schools, economic development, and healthcare in our area. Research shows that advanced broadband service is crucial to a community’s growth and survival as well as an essential component to overall quality of life,” says Espeseth.
